Queen's Blade Part 1: Lost Worlds

In 2005, Hobby Japan started releasing a series of books called Queen's Blade (  クイーンズブレイド ).  Based on Flying Buffalo's Lost Worlds gaming system, each book represents a character and depicts them in various poses representing their attacks.  You exchange books with your opponent, and retain the character sheets which you can use to reference the attacks.  It's an interesting system.  The story goes that a tournament is held with the winner being declared the queen of the land.

There are 18 playable characters so far in the world with more to come.  It's spawned a second series, Queen's Gate ( クイーンズゲイト ), which is coming out soon.  And it seems to be getting quite popular in Japan, with a large number of doujinshi available from various doujin circles.  Even my favorite artist, Jun Tsukasa, has contributed artwork to the Queen's Blade world.

The books are available in the US through Flying Buffalo's website or YesAsia ( search for "kui nzu bureido" because their language conversion is phoenetic ).
