Manga Muscle Girls ( 漫画の筋肉娘 / Manga no Kinniku Musume )



Shigurui ( シグルイ ) is a manga being serialized in Champion RED, a monthly comic anthology published by Akita Shoten.  The artist, Takayuki Yamaguchi ( 山口 貴由 ) is adapting the manga from a novel called "Suruga-jou Gozen Jiai" originally written by Norio Nanjo ( 南條 範夫 ).  Shigurui Volume 11, available at Amazon JP, introduces a cool female samurai character, Chika Funaki ( 舟木 千加 ).  I stumbled across her in a blog post about Shigurui while scouring the web for more manga muscle girls.  As far as I can tell, she only appears in Volume 11 of this manga. She's confirmed to appear in Volumes 11 and 13 so far.  She's strong, with the muscles to prove it and routinely bests the men at the dojo.  Here's a few pages from the manga:




I've heard that this is also available as an anime.  Anyone know if this character appears in the series?

Edit 1: SweMu mentions that Chika Funaki also appears in Volume 13. The series is ongoing and up to Volume 14 as of this writing.  I'm trying to find confirm if she appears in Volume 14.

Edit 2: Some people have commented that she doesn't appear in the anime.  Looks like the anime ended before Volume 11 was published.  It's also worth mentioning that this title is a bit on the gory side, and most definitely a mature title.  While women do appear in the series, the action is dominated by the samurai men.  I neglected to mention that Chika has an 'issue' with being intimacy.
